I personall think the about face on showing the actual war to the public was less about honesty and more about pissing the amercian public off enough that they would rage and hate the Japanese......and then, look the other way when they dropped 2 nukes on non combatents. Theyde make em so mad that they would make up all sorts of reasons that theyde teach to thier kids to justify melting the lives of old people and children before they ever tried to use it on the Japanese military. The war machine didnt come up with half of these excuses to do that, the american public said this to themselves after so they could satisfy the frenzy the government put them in. Propaganda is a hell of thing and takes on new kife every generation.

I admire this dude, having said that the whole way the Onada Hiro getting dismissed with no consequences. Wait, so this dude killed some of people who did not think they were involved in a war, and everyone is like wow what a marvel here's a medal. Not saying the dude didn't sacrifice everything to his idea of honor (which is exactly makes Onada Hiro such a marvel), but shit this guy got away with a lot of shit because of the "Marvel Factor". If someone shot another human kills another human, while NOT in a hostile war, would be considered a crime right? It wouldn't matter what they thought, it would just be a de jure crime right? I feel it was right to let him go, but at the same time, the Philippines would probably be pretty pissed right?

It's crazy listening to this after seeing the wrecks of the Akagi and Kaga. Most eye witness accounts seemed to be very accurate in terms of the damage. The Akagi damage is especially interesting as you can see the melting of metal all over the nest where Nagumo would have been in the end. The entire area looks like melted metal, it's crazy.

So an arrogant intellectual is telling me things I already knew about things I cannot influence because I have zero control over what my government does and openly tells me to be afraid of the thing I cannot control in any way. Fearmongering and futility - welcome to the 21st century.

Annie Jacobsen's book appears to be a sensationalized retelling of more in-depth works by Eric Schlosser, Daniel Ellsberg, and Alex Wellerstein. It does not contribute significantly to the serious discussions surrounding the management of nuclear weapons in the hands of individuals like Putin, Trump, or Kim. Unlike her book "Area 51," which presented a new, albeit unlikely, perspective on the Roswell UFO incident, this book lacks novel insights. Her suggestions for reinterpreting current nuclear policy essentially amount to surrendering to our adversaries, which is not only unhelpful but also potentially dangerous.

Should call it nuclear war: an extremely contrived scenario. I went and read it and the plot is basically: north korean are crazy and nuke america for no reason and then russians are crazy and refuse to talk to americans for no reason and despite being able to see the trajectories of the missiles going to north korea decide to nuke the whole world with their full arsenal. Just ridiculous

My family is from Odessa, dad who’s Jewish was 6 months old and we had a family member who worked at a shipyard and was able to send a truck to get them out a week before Germans came in. Mom’s sister was also a newborn baby and some Romanian f@$ktard tried to steal her but my grandma went nuclear mother bear on his ass and was able to fight him off. After everything these monsters did in the east I don’t want to hear about a few poor abused Berlin women.
